Why Leddy Park?
Leddy Park, on Burlington’s waterfront bike path, is a city treasure with multiple recreational uses. With two softball fields, one baseball field, one soccer field, four tennis courts, an ice rink, lakeside beach, 8 picnic areas with firepit grills, a bike path, miles of walking trails, and two parking lots totaling room for over 200 cars, Leddy Park is Burlington’s ideal location for family recreation. The woods in Leddy Park - currently not being used for any other active recreational activity - offer enough space for an 18-hole disc golf course with plenty of room (dozens of acres!) to spare for non-disc golf park users.
Disc golf is America’s fastest growing recreational activity. Currently there are over 3,000 courses in cities nationwide, with more courses being added in communities just like Burlington every year. The sport is enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels, and is played by women, men, kids and families all over the country.
As long-time community members who enjoy Leddy Park, we believe it’s time to add disc golf and an estimated 1.1 more miles of trails to this great Burlington Park.
Top Reasons why Leddy Park is the perfect home for an 18-hole disc golf course
ON THE BURLINGTON BIKE PATH
Leddy Park is located on the Burlington Bike Path making it an easy ride from anywhere in our community.
LEDDY IS A MULTI-USE ACTIVE RECREATION PARK
Leddy Park is home to dozens of recreational activities, yet still has room to add a course with very little impact on any of the current activities enjoyed by park users.
DISC GOLF WOULD IMPROVE THE PARK
We enjoy Leddy Park and recognize that as community members we need to work together to keep the park safe, clean, and healthy. We are raising thousands of dollars in small contributions from local individuals and businesses, which we’re using to enhance the cleanliness and accessibility of parts of the park previously impassible due to debris and undergrowth.
PLENTY OF PARKING
Two parking lots offer a total of over 200 hundred spaces. Current park usage rarely finds the large parking lot even half full meaning plenty of space is available for increased park traffic.
ALREADY EXISTING PRO-SHOP
The Leddy Park Ice Rink has a Pro-Shop in it. This is a perfect place to sell Frisbee discs and offer free scorecards with course rules, and would be a great way for Parks & Rec. to increase their revenue.
ALREADY EXISTING BATHROOMS
Leddy Park has public bathrooms open to all park users. At no point will a disc golfer have to travel far to find a bathroom.
SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS
From local restaurants and grocery stores to gas stations and convenience stores, businesses around Leddy Park will be positively affected by having an 18-hole disc golf course nearby.
